Merlin's Stone known locally as Ty Llwyd (Gray House) stands in Cae Maen Llwyd (field of the gray stone) near Bryn Myrddin (Merlin's Hill) at the western end of the Towy flood plain. Legends tell of Merlin throwing a stone from the top of the hill and it breaking into three pieces on the valley below. He is said to have buried his treasure under it and left a spell saying that one day a raven would drink human blood if it was ever disturbed. The prophecy came true when the stone fell on a man digging under it for riches.
Two miles to the East is the Ffynnon Newydd Henge and a flint knapping site.
In the Neolithic and Bronze age the Towy must have been very busy. To the first farmers a fertile and precious place.
